Issue #2
September 1st, 2006
Happy Birthday, Artemis!
Think you can figure out who wrote a drabble just by reading it? Think you can recognize an author’s style in only 100 words of fic? Well, here’s your chance to try, even if you don’t think either these things.
Guess the Author is a competition based on differentiating between author’s styles. A group of volunteer authors are given the same set of requirements or prompt and have to write a fic or fic excerpt inspired by it. Then it is your task to determine which was written by whom, just from a list of who participated and links to samples of their previous work.
If you think you can match up the authors to the fics, send your guesses to the editor.
In the next month's issue, we'll publish the answers and the names of people who correctly figured it out.
The August GTA answers are as follows:
Anordir - Little Miss Goldilocks
Dim Aldebaran - [Untitled]
FairyHunter - Red Shift
The White Lily - Lunar Fallacy
Blue Yeti - Ascendant
The fics this month are all exactly 100 words long, and were inspired by this prompt:
"How can you see something that isn't there?"
—from The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster
Here is the authors who submitted drabbles this month:
Anordir
colfergeek
Dim Aldebaran
FairyHunter
Kitty Rainbow

And now, the fics:

The authors would all appreciate feedback on their fics, so please go ahead and review - even if you don't know who you're reviewing!
We always welcome volunteers to write, be it for every issue or just one. If you wish to participate in the GTA of the October issue of The Observatory, a message should be sent to Anordir (on an Orion Awards forum PM) or to the the editor, who will send you the rules.
The prompt for the October GTA is:
“It’s like riding a unicorn. You never forget."
—Foaly, from Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer
