Happy Birthday, Artemis!

The Humble MosquitoHello, all!

We’re pleased you came back for the second edition, which has even more Artemis Fowl and fanfiction-related goodies for your education and enjoyment. And if this is your first visit, welcome!

There’s a phrase that comes to mind this month. It’s something of a Briticism; it’s called “Commentators Curse” and it goes that whenever a sports commentator makes a judgement, something entirely contradictory will happen on the field of play. For example, he might complement a player before they make a bad pass, or insult a player before they score a goal. I am reminded of this by Blue Yeti’s comment at the end of her article about AgiVega, which said “And so ends the journey of a fandom legend.” Err, sorry, Yeti, no-can-do.

That’s right! We were so impressed with her answers that I approached Agi and asked her to come back and write a column for us each month! Welcome to the team, Agi! Also joining the stuff late this month as Assistant Editor is Black Knight, or BK. He’ll work with me to ensure that the articles on the fanzine are of the highest quality possible.

This month we have all the same stuff as before, as well as Agi’s column and a few other bits and bobs, including a couple of extra humour columns, my very own interview with Blue Yeti and recommendations for “Forgotten Fics.” We also have a review of the latest spectacular Artemis Fowl book, The Lost Colony.

As this is the second issue, I feel it appropriate to say some thank-yous to my hard working staff; after all, it’s easy to get motivated for the first issue… So, bear with me…

Gus, Yeti and most of all Lily for their tireless htmling (within which I am lost.) and advice; Schizy for designing some brilliant cover art for some of our articles (and writing more than her fair share of content); BK for feeding back to the people who needed it most; Fairy Hunter for ‘editing the editor’; and Alde for caring so much that she nags and for helping out with odd jobs; Filament, Nord, Kitty, Alvin, and Agi for valued contributions.

They all do this for free, and have given up a lot of their time, so feedback (in our newly created feedback board) or even just a pat on the back will, I’m sure, be well received.

Also, thanks to all those sites which have plugged us. Especially Matt at Artemis Fowl Confidential and Michael at the Artemis Fowl Fangathering.

Finally, thank you to the readers for turning up and reading our work – particularly to those of you who took the time to feedback. We hope that you will all stay with us in the months to come.

Comments, suggestions, submissions, and compliments about my pretty, pretty wings welcome at orionobservatory@gmail.com

Oh, and happy Birthday, Artemis!
